Because what's a trick if it doesn't involve ears?!

Little Bitty: We should teach Mighty Boy some new tricks. We should teach him to give us five with his paw... and to stand on his ear.

Brother: Yeah! We SHOULD teach him to give five. But - he can't stand on his ear.

Little Bitty: I KNOW. We need to TRAIN him to stand on his ear.

Brother: But, he's not going to be able to do that. We'll just be able to train him to give five.

Little Bitty: Ok. We'll train him to give us five. And then we'll hold his feet while he stands on his ear.

Good luck with that guys. ;)

Like Forrest Gump

Now you wouldn't believe me if I told you, but I could run like the wind blows. From that day on, if I was ever going somewhere, I was running!
Forrest Gump, 1994

My sister and I have been training for the Music City Marathon (just the HALF). And I use the word "training" loosely. Many of you who know me know that I like to run...but I have a habit of training for races that I don't actually run in. It's ok. In the meantime, I'm pretty healthy and not overweight - so I shall keep training when I feel like it and someday probably run one of those races.

The more entertaining part of this is that Brother's elementary school has organized a group of kids who are running a mile per day until the day before the marathon and then kids from all over get together to run the last mile of 26 miles and therefore have run a marathon. Did I explain that right? Anyway - the running started this week and my little dude is into it. He ran 2 miles the first day and then 3 miles the next day. Well, not to be left out - Little Bitty joined in yesterday and did 1.5 miles. They are both so cute running the laps. Little Bitty made sure to pack a bag of snacks and juice boxes for them yesterday. The girl doesn't go long without a snack so she knew she better prepare for this run.

I'm very proud of my active little offspring. I wish kids all over our country would participate in this. It's so great to see them outside - just running. It promotes good health, goal setting, social interaction, and I'm hoping at some point they'll be so tired that they'll go to bed on time. ;)

A little political...a lot sweet.

For some reason the kids have been talking a lot about marriage and girlfriends and boyfriends and having kids, etc. They are both certain they want families when they grow up. Little Bitty, when asked what she wants to be when she grows up, says “a mommy”. Although, I think she'd prefer to have like a baby penguin as opposed to a human. Brother wants to be an author or toy designer when he grows up. However, Little Bitty told him he should either be an engineer…or maybe have a lemonade stand. She also announced that she doesn't EVER want Brother to get married. She wants him to stay with her. Awww.

Earlier this week they were talking about girlfriends. Brother is smitten with a certain little girl in his class – and has been all year. Little Bitty announced that her girlfriend is Audrey. Brother very sympathetically explained to her “Well, Audrey shouldn't be your girlfriend…because you would never be able to marry her. Well – not in Tennessee anyway, maybe if you moved to Washington or somewhere.” Brother and I had had a recent conversation about same-sex marriage because we know several same-sex couples in Nashville. He was wondering about one family we know that has two daddies and if the daddies were able to get married. Pretty insightful for a six year old, no?

For the record – I want my kids to be able to marry whoever they want, wherever they want.

An ironic thing here is that Audrey is Little Bitty’s cousin…and that’s probably legal in Tennessee. ;)
